Hi guys! I’m excited to show you again another chain maille pattern that I’ve learned. For beginners like me, this is something cool to learn and we are going to make this necklace
I named the piece Byzantine Flower Chain Maille Necklace. The flower pendant was constructed using the Helm Pattern I showed you last week. Originally, I created the flower helm as earrings, but I wanted to use every piece of chain maille I will learn and combine with new patterns.
The necklace itself is Byzantine Weave using 20ga wire 3mm and 5mm jump rings. The weave looks intricate and difficult but it’s really easy to make. I used red and silver colored wires to match the Flower Helm.
For tutorial purposes I used 20ga 8mm jump rings. So here it is…
Link 2 red, 2 silver and 2 red jump rings. Use a paper clip so the rings are easy to handle and won’t get tangled with each other.
Let the last 2 red rings fall on the side and pull the silver rings.
Then let the silver rings fall on the side and pull the 2 red outer rings.
After pulling the 2 red outer rings attach 2 silver rings.
Pull the silver rings and you’ll see the rings starts to create a pattern.
Continue to attach 2 red and 2 silver rings.
Let the 2 silver rings fall on the side and pull the red rings.
Then let the 2 red rings fall on the side and gather the silver rings.
Similar to what you did on Step 3, take the 2 silver outer rings and attach 2 red rings.
Pull the last 2 red rings and you’ll see your first set of Byzantine Pattern.
Then attach 1 x 5mm red ring onto the last 2 red rings.
From here, repeat Step 1 to 9 to make another set of Byzantine Weave.
At a closer look this is how 1 set of Byzantine Weave should look like.
After every set of Byzantine Weave you attach 1 red ring.
Continue linking your Byzantine Weave until you reach your desired length and at the end, simply attach your clasp
Attach 2 x 3mm silver rings and you’re done!
Simply arrange the Flower Helm however you want them
